Objective
We are passionate about supporting social sector organisations including government (at all levels) and institutional partners to provide solutions to social problems prevailing in our communities. We do this by providing the following services:
- Consulting advisory
- Project management
- Research/monetising data
We work with East African organisations across the social sector – we use our experience in strategy consulting, project management, research, transformation and organisational capacity building to provide solutions on complex social issues.
What We Do
We work collaboratively with the social sector, government and institutional partners to enhance the prospects of our most vulnerable communities. Our multidisciplinary teams work with clients to create solutions which address immediate social problems and also have the ability to be scaled to greater target audiences.
We recognise the power of networks and we encourage linkages within our relationships and across sectors; while these are not intended to directly lead to client engagements, they are a key contributor to building social and organisational capacity in the region.
Our Areas of Focus
Social sector: Increasingly, institutional partners and social sector organisations (such as NGO’s) face a number of challenges including project funding and on-going viability, limited management expertise, weakened or threatened institutional capacity, digital disruption, new entrants, poor communication and coordination capabilities and limited understanding of broader social issues within their remit.
We provide the social sector with services to ameliorate these challenges. Our services include, but are not limited to, strategy, monitoring and evaluation, project management, and impact management.
Our engagements have typically involved:
- health and social policy;
- agriculture, rural development;
- natural resource and environmental management;
- infrastructure, transport, urban planning, and telecommunications;
- education, vocational training and social development;
Government: Aside from the common challenges faced by the social sector (read social sector section), a key issue in the relationship between the social sector and government are the decision-making processes within both government and social sector for policy direction and internal management (such as training and development, recruitment and others). There is a growing need to enhance collaboration between government and the social sector to ensure the capacity of government to establish appropriate regulatory frameworks and for the social sector to appropriately deliver social outcomes aligned with these frameworks and community expectations.
We work with government to aid the development of the appropriate policy instruments and provide relevant regulatory guidance to ensure a vibrant social sector which can deliver outcomes as needed by vulnerable members of the community and also take advantage of any government funding opportunities.
Institutional partners: As regional leaders on social issues, we work with institutional partners to provide research and data services for clients. We welcome new partners who would like to join us to contribute to growing the regional capability on social issues through a committed network of research institutions, organisations and other bodies.
In collaboration with our partners, we provide insights to our clients through a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods. We combine academic thoroughness with professional services to deliver outcomes of the highest value. Our research covers issues of social concern to the region including, but not limited to:
- Health
- Education
- Institutional Reform
- Poverty
- Gender and Development
- Environment and Sustainable Development
